Venice Biennale - Fare Mondi / Making Worlds : Director Daniel Birnbaum says: 'A work of art represents a vision of the world and if taken seriously it can be seen as a way of making a world. It is an exhibition driven by the aspiration to explore worlds around us as well as worlds ahead. It is about possible new beginnings!'

New Zealand at The Venice Biennale : Artist Judy Millar displays her paintings in the interior of the Neo-Classical structure La Maddalena. The exhibition ‘Giraffe-Bottle-Gun’ instigates a lively dispute with the venue in which it intrudes, between the great history of Venetian painting and this contemporary practice.

The installation Save Yourself by Sculptor, Francis Upritchard includes clusters of figures situated on table-like wooden platforms extending out from the base of giant antique mirrors within the three chambers within the Fondazione Claudio Buziol at the Palazzo Mangilli-Valmarana.

Ernesto Neto - The Park Avenue Armory : Park Avenue Armory launched its first commissioned art installation with anthropodino, a large-scale, interactive sculpture by world-renowned artist, Ernesto Neto. Using hundreds of yards of translucent material, Neto suspends a gigantic canopy from the drill hall’s latticework truss, spanning 120 feet wide and 180 feet long. Magnificent, aromatic “fabric stalactites” descend 60 feet to embrace a vast labyrinth of passageways and rooms.

Roxy Paine - The Metropolitan Museum : American artist Roxy Paine (b. 1966) has created a 130-foot-long by 45-foot-wide stainless-steel sculpture, especially for the Museum’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. Giving viewers the sense of being immersed in the midst of a cataclysmic force of nature, Maelstrom (2009) is Paine’s largest and most ambitious work to date. The latest in a diverse body of work, this sculpture is one of the artist’s Dendroids based on systems such as vascular networks, tree roots, industrial piping, and fungal mycelia. Set against Central Park and its architectural backdrop, the installation explores the interplay between the natural world and the built environment amid nature’s inherently chaotic processes.

Zaha Hadid - Central Park : In the fall of 2008 Zaha Hadid's Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion made its way to Central Park, one of the stops on its whirlwind world tour. The curled shiny structure is full of art inspired by Chanel's iconic 2.55 handbag -- pieces like an enormous Chanel handbag spilled over. The work has drawn criticism for its cluelessness, and its place in the Park, which the New York Times calls an "instrument of psychological healing for the weary." Apparently Chanel's little interlocking Cs don't have quite the same calming effect, even when they're wrapped up in Hadid's creativity.
